While 5G is still in its early stages, many US carriers are pushing to get people to sign up for the faster cellular network.

Verizon is making a push by rolling out the TCL 10 5G UW at $399, making it the most affordable 5G smartphone offered by the carrier.

Sure, it has relatively low specs other than the 5G connectivity, but if you live in an area where 5G is readily available, it could be worth a look.

TCL 10 5G UW Features and Specs

The TCL 10 5G UW is the very definition of a mid-range smartphone. Obviously, the main selling point is the support for 5G. The TCL 10 5G UW features both the slower 5G and the ultra-speedy mmWave technology. Of course, the latter is pretty hard to find, and the former isn't much faster than LTE.

The phone comes with a 6.5-inch 1080p display, which is what we'd expect to see on a middle-of-the-road smartphone. Tucked under that screen is a hole-punch 16MP selfie camera.

As for the power, there's a Snapdragon 765G and 6GB of RAM. Again, this is pretty standard for a phone at this price point. It comes with 128GB of storage that'll keep all of your files and photos where you need them.

Android 10 comes installed on the TCL 10 5G UW. However, the phone will get at least one major OS upgrade and quarterly security patches over the next two years. It's not the best software plan on the market, but it's better than nothing.

Early reports indicate that the camera is where the TCL 10 5G UW falls short. It has a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro shooter. They're pretty decent in terms of specs, but cheaper phones like the Google Pixel 4a have far better camera setups and software for capturing beautiful images.

When Will The TCL 10 5G UW Launch?

The phone is slated to launch on October 29, exclusively on Verizon Wireless. Currently, Verizon offers the Motorola One 5G UW for $549 as the cheapest 5G device. That makes the $399 price of the TCL 10 5G UW a pretty substantial drop in price for a phone with 5G and mmWave tech.

While it's a pretty good price for a 5G phone, there are better devices on the market that might be worth considering. If you can muster up an additional $100, the Google Pixel 4a 5G is far more capable. If you don't live near a place with mmWave 5G, you can get the regular Pixel 4a for $349, which is a far better package for $50 cheaper.
