We often use the new year as an excuse to take better care of our appearance, personal growth, and ultimately self-esteem. Today’s focus is all about looking great. And what better place to start than by finding advice online?
Not too long ago, I compiled a list of Subreddits that all men should read. This article is the counterpart for women – a list of Subreddits for women of all ages who want to make the most of their beauty.
Health, both physical and mental, is a crucial aspect of human well-being and it’s just as true for women as it is for men. What’s the most effective way to improve health? Diet and exercise. I’m sure you’ve heard this time and time again, but it’s true and there are no shortcuts to good health.
Indeed, good health is a lifestyle that encompasses the majority of your daily choices: eating balanced meals and avoiding processed foods, getting enough sleep, eliminating sedentary activity, etc. This isn’t something that can be achieved in a few months. It must be maintained for the rest of your life.
What do you get out of it? Mental clarity, pain relief, endorphin rushes, boosted confidence, and (of course) a toned body. You don’t need to be a bodybuilder or fitness freak, but there’s no denying that diet and exercise are important to the core. These two general Subreddits will get you started on the right track, while /r/xxfitness is the female-only fitness Subreddit counterpart.
If your body is a painting, then your clothing is the frame. Fashion is a critical aspect of your first impression to other people. I’m not talking about runway fashion either – just the simple things that you wear on a day-to-day basis can make a huge difference in how others see you.
Not everyone has an eye for fashion, for style, and for outfits. Fortunately, it’s a skill that can be learned and the female fashion advice Subreddit is a great place to start. You’ll find plenty of style newbies who ask a lot of questions (“What would complement this skirt?”) and post outfit checks (“Does this look okay?”). In response, many of the community members offer great critiques and advice.
If you ever outgrow this Subreddit, there are a few other online fashion communities that you might want to check out for continuing your growth in style.
Skincare is way up there when it comes to female beauty. I can’t even count the number of beauty products that are advertised on TV, not to mention all of the makeup that exists to cover up imperfect skin. But even if we put beauty aside, proper skincare should be part of your daily routine regardless.
Don’t be repelled by the Subreddit’s name – there is no addiction here. It just describes the passionate nature of the community when it comes to good skincare and they openly welcome all new members whether you’re a complete newbie or a veteran skincare professional.
If you want to be active, you can ask questions and get a lot of good answers. If you don’t want to be active, you can still benefit from their numerous guides that cover topics ranging from basic skincare routines, to moisturizer selection, to oil cleansing, to sunscreen.
Is it possible to talk about female beauty without mentioning hair? The Bible mentions that a woman’s hair is her glory and I’m sure plenty of us would agree with that. Well-styled hair can be absolutely dazzling no matter who you are, what you wear, or the type of body you have.
This Subreddit isn’t just for women but they do make up a large majority. There aren’t many general haircare guides, but it’s a fantastic community when you want to ask hair-related questions.
Most questions pertain to styling and coloring suggestions and you’ll find a good number of “after advice” photos that showcase some marvelous transformations.
We’ve covered health, clothing, skin, and hair. Can you guess what’s next? Nails! I’m aware that not every female is into painting her nails, but for those of you who are, this Subreddit will be a treasure trove of tips, advice, and ideas. I never paint my nails but I’m always impressed when I visit this community.
In the sidebar, you’ll find a compilation of nail art tutorials that teach you how to do a wide array of nail-painting techniques. Otherwise, most of the post submissions are photos that show off some amazing nail artwork. If you want to paint your nails in more than solid color blocks, this is the place for you.
As of 2011, approximately 85 percent of women were wearing the wrong bra size, but this Subreddit certainly knows how a bra is supposed to fit. Bras that don’t fit correctly can prove problematic: digging straps, red marks, shoulder and neck aches, riding bands, and even difficulty breathing.
Finding the right bra size could eliminate any or all of these problems, resulting in a radically improved quality of life. After all, you probably wear your bra quite often. Why shouldn’t you be comfortable?
This Subreddit is all about helping you find the right bra for your size. If you hate shopping for bras, this is the place for you. There are plenty of guides that cover sizing, shapes, care and storage, etc. and plenty of users who will testify to the benefits of proper bra selection.
No doubt you have also found some amazing Subreddits and other online communities for women with a taste for fashion and good health. What do you recommend?
