Umar 20-09-2012

iPod owners have a large music collection on their devices. Normally to use another device to listen to music stored on your iPod, you would first have to transfer the songs to the other device. But a far more convenient option would be to stream your iPod’s music using another iOS device or a DLNA / UPnP device. This feature is provided to you by a smartphone app called withU.

share ipod music library

withU is a smartphone application that runs on iOS devices. The app is sized at nearly 1 MB and runs on an iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad that runs iOS version 4.2 or later. The app helps you stream music from your iPod music library using a DLNA / UPnP device such as Xbox, PS3, XBMC, or your PC. With the application installed on your iOS device, you should connect your iOS device and DLNA / UPnP device on the same router or hotspot because the music is streamed over Wi-Fi of the same network.

Xbox users can find the app under My Apps, PS3 can access the app’s music simply in the Music section, PC users can select Other Library in Windows Media Player, and iOS devices can stream music by installing the app and entering the Remote Devices option. Once you get access to the music library, you can enter Songs, Albums, Artists, Genres, and Playlists of your library.

When it comes to iPod devices and PC, music can be streamed both ways. However on an Xbox or a PS3, music can only be streamed from your iOS device to your gaming device. To ensure that the app works properly, your iOS device must have about 100 MB of free storage space.
