I highly recommend Mr Holmes too. It's a beautiful, intimate story that might not be a thrill-a-minute, but is nonetheless engaging for its character studies. You won't get A Study in Scarlet, but you will get a joyous little tale. I enjoyed the book too, but the film, I think, is a bit better, just because the endings more upbeat.
