With Samsung's latest phones adding tons of awesome features, more people are trading in their old smartphones for the company's innovative devices. If certain settings don't feel quite right on your brand-new Samsung phone, there's always a way to change them.

Samsung (and Android phones in general) come with a plethora of customization options that can help make your phone totally yours. Here's how to customize almost everything about your Samsung phone.

1. Revamp Your Wallpaper and Color Palette

Changing your wallpaper is the easiest way to make your phone feel like new again and personalize it as per your unique style. You don't have to stick with the generic wallpapers and color palette that Samsung gives you.

Head to Settings > Wallpaper and styles and select Gallery to find a suitable wallpaper from your personal images. You can apply it to either your home screen, lock screen, or both. You can also choose to set a video wallpaper to your lock screen.

After changing your wallpaper, your phone will ask you a set a custom color palette. Choose one that you think best matches the wallpaper. Remember, the color palette you choose will be applied everywhere on your phone.

2. Change Your Theme

If you don't want to go through the hassle of trying to find a wallpaper and lock screen that match, just install a theme. Themes change your lock screen and wallpaper—and some even change your icons too.

You can access themes by going to Settings > Themes, or just tap on the Galaxy Themes app. Make sure you've selected Themes on the bottom menu bar. Here, you can browse through dozens of free and paid themes that'll make your Samsung phone look more beautiful.

3. Give Your Icons a New Look

Samsung also gives you a way to change the appearance of your icons. Whether you hate the look of the default Samsung icons or aren't too fond of the icons that come with your theme, head to the same Galaxy Themes app and hit Icons on the bottom menu bar.

You'll find all kinds of fun things here—some make your icons cute while others make them look modern. Keep in mind that installing one of these icon themes won't change every icon that you have. It only affects the standard Samsung apps that come with your phone.

4. Install a Different Keyboard

If you don't like Samsung's default keyboard, you can switch to the Gboard app that comes pre-installed on all Android devices or choose a third-party keyboard such as SwiftKey. The keyboard you choose all comes down to your personal preference.

A quick search on the Play Store yields plenty of keyboard apps for you to choose from. Install the keyboard app of your choice and open it. Most keyboard apps allow you to change your default option with just a few taps.

5. Customize Your Lock Screen Notifications

You can customize your lock screen notifications by going to Settings > Lock screen > Notifications. Here, choose from Icons only or Details to change the style in which you're shown notifications. For additional privacy, toggle on the Hide content option.

You can also adjust the Transparency slider as per your taste. This way, the bubble in which notifications content appears will fade and won't interrupt the look of your wallpaper too much.

Sometimes the notification's text color is too dark or too light to be properly visible on your lock screen. If that's the case, switch on Auto-reverse text color. This helpful feature changes the color of your text depending on the color of your wallpaper.

6. Customize Your Always On Display

Always On Display (AOD) shows the time, date, battery percentage, and notification icons against a black background when you're not using your phone. You can also set it to show a monthly calendar, music info, the fingerprint scanner, and charging info. To do this, go to Settings > Lock screen > Always On Display.

First, toggle the feature on and select when you want to see the AOD screen; choose from Tap to show, Show always, Show as scheduled, or Show for new notifications. Next, change the style and color of the AOD screen by tapping Clock style. Toggle on Show music information to see the now-playing song and artist name.

To see the fingerprint scanner icon on your AOD screen, go to Settings > Biometrics and security > Fingerprints and toggle on Show icon when screen is off. To see charging information on your AOD screen, go to Settings > Display and toggle on Show charging information.

7. Hide or Show Items on Your Status Bar

Your status bar sits at the top of your screen and displays all your phone's vitals. It's where you check the time, monitor your phone's battery life, and see how strong your connection is. When you get a ton of notifications, it can quickly make the status bar look cluttered.

To limit the number of notifications shown, go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings, then tap Show notifications icons and select 3 most recent to show only three icons at once. If you want to do away with notification icons altogether, select None.

You can also add a battery percentage to the status bar by toggling on Show battery percentage.

8. Customize Your Edge Panels

Edge panels is one of the most useful features on your Samsung phone. You can use it to quickly access your favorite apps and contacts by swiping the edge of your screen. Not only can you change the contents of this panel, but you can also add or remove entire panels.

Once you enable edge panels on your Samsung phone, you can customize them as per your style. Go to Settings > Display > Edge panels and tap Panels to show different panel options. Aside from Apps, you can also add Tasks, Weather, People, and more.

Finally, go back and tap Handle to change the color, length, width, position, and transparency of the edge panel handle. You can even make your phone vibrate when the handle is touched.

9. Alter Your Edge Lighting Style

Notifications can be quite obtrusive, especially when you receive them in the middle of a movie or gameplay. Luckily, you can change the style in which notifications pop up on your screen. Go to Settings > Notifications > Brief pop-up settings > Edge lighting style.

Here, you can change the effect, color, transparency, and duration of the pop-up effect of your notifications.

10. Increase Your Screen Resolution

When you own a powerful phone like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, you should take advantage of its high-quality display. To increase your screen resolution, head to Settings > Display > Screen resolution.

You get three different options: HD+, FHD+, and WQHD+. Don't hesitate to set your resolution to WQHD+. You might lose a little more battery, but it's worth it.

11. Move the Back Button to the Left Side

Other phones in the Android family tend to have the Back button on the left side of the navigation bar; Samsung places the Back button on the right by default. Head to Settings > Display > Navigation bar and start customizing. Here, you can change the button order and even opt to use swipe gestures as a form of navigation.

12. Change Your Navigation Type

Most Android users are accustomed to using navigation buttons, but it's not the only way you can navigate your phone. We recommend switching to swipe gestures for navigation since they feel more fluid and natural than tapping static buttons on the navigation bar.

To do so, go to Settings > Display > Navigation bar and select Swipe gestures. You can also tap More options to adjust the gesture sensitivity of the navigation or enable Swipe to open assistant app which triggers the assistant without you having to say the hotword.

13. Change Font Size and Style

If you're not a fan of the default font style on your Samsung phone, you can change it to a different one. To do so, go to Settings > Display > Font size and style. Here, you can adjust the font size and make it bold.

Tap Font style and choose from the pre-installed fonts on your phone or tap Download fonts to install third-party fonts from the Galaxy Store. Some fonts are paid, while others are free.

14. Create a Custom Sound Profile for Your Ears

You can create a unique sound profile tuned for your ears to improve the sound quality of your Samsung phone. To do this, go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects > Adapt Sound.

Here, select the sound profile of your device based on your age. You can either choose from the three presets (Under 30 years old, 30 to 60 years old, and Over 60 years old) or create a completely personalized sound profile based on a detailed hearing test.

15. Hide Unused Apps From the Apps Screen

Galaxy phones come with a lot of pre-installed Samsung apps, and many of them are of little use to the average user. Most of these apps can either be deleted or disabled, but not all. For apps that can't be removed, you can still hide them from your Home and Apps screen so they don't create more clutter.

To do so, go to Settings > Home screen > Hide apps on Home and Apps screens. On this page, select the apps that you want to hide from your screen. Next, tap Done to finish.

Spruce Up Your Samsung Device

You won't get the most out of your Samsung smartphone if you leave it with its default settings. The beauty of a Samsung phone comes from all its customization options. Personalizing your phone doesn't just make it more convenient to use, it also makes it much more attractive.

If you want to customize your phone even more, the best place to start is the Samsung Good Lock app. This all-in-one customization app has everything you need to redesign your Galaxy phone the way it fits your style the best.
