If you're on the go, using someone else's computer, or don't have Photoshop or GIMP on your computer, there's not much you can do with a PSD file. Luckily, some online tools make it possible to edit PSD files without the usual tools on hand.

Photopea [No Longer Available] is one of the easiest tools for doing just that. While it's certainly no replacement for Photoshop, it's a tool that comes in handy in a pinch. It has all the basic tools you'd find in Photoshop: selection and move tools, cropping tools, text tools, clone, blur, dodge, burn, and eyedropper tools.

Photopea also has some key Photoshop features including access to layers and a history panel, making it easy to step back and forward in the editing process while using the online app. So if you need to edit text, move an object, or access layers in the PSD file, Photopea makes it very easy, with an interface that any regular Photoshop user will find familiar.

You'll just have to get used to a few different shortcuts or commands. For example, the keyboard shortcut to undo a step is Alt + Ctrl + Z instead of Ctrl + Z. To access blending options, instead of right-clicking the layer, you have to double-click it. Once you're done with your file, you can save it as a PSD file, or JPG, PNG, GIF, and more.

You can also keep your entire work process online, editing PSDs directly from Google Drive:

There are a few disadvantages to using an online tool like Photopea is the lack of access to your local fonts. Photopea has a wide selection of fonts to choose from, but if your design requires a premium font that is availably on your computer, you won't be able to access it. Photopea also doesn't support non-latin languages.
