If you want to start listening to audiobooks but think one per month is too much, Audible’s secret Silver plan might be right for you.

Audible doesn’t advertise the Silver plan for some reason, but it’s an active option. Silver costs $15 — and awards one credit — every two months instead of every month. Silver plans still get membership benefits like 30% discounts on every audiobook, the Great Listen Guarantee that lets you return any book you aren’t satisfied with, and up to six credits rolled over.

If you only listen to audiobooks occasionally, one book every two months will be perfect for you.

You can also jump on this plan by cancelling a couple times. I had the free trial and canceled it before the full membership kicked in because of the price. When Audible asked why, I clicked the "too expensive" option. They then gave me a three-month half-price promo, which I accepted. When that was almost up, I again cancelled and clicked the "too expensive" option, at which point it offered me silver.

Thanks for the tip -- it worked like a charm! Took about 90 seconds on a chat with Audible customer service. It shows up in your account the instant it's processed so you can confirm by refreshing your account details page.

I went in to cancel my membership for a little while because I had pretty much exhausted my wish list and had a number of unread books to catch up on. They offered me a free book to stay. So I took it. Then cancelled. Kinda scummy, but they allowed me to do it. I'll probably be joining back up again soon, but I may inquire about this Silver option.

I used Audible for a while when I driving all over the place for work. I listened to a couple books in that time and enjoyed it, but when I started writing full-time I didn't need it. When I went to cancel I put my plan on hold for 60 days instead. I should have taken the free book like you did!

You can buy three audible credits for $28 plus change. That's less than $10 per credit for any audible book no matter what the price, and you get the credits instantly. So this whole silver plan sounds kind of stupid.

What sense does it make to get a silver plan for the same price of the gold plan, but only get a credit once every other month?! Is there a typo regarding the gold plan price?

Silver costs $15 every other month and awards one credit every other month. Gold costs $15/month and gives one credit every month.

Silver is great for people who don't need or want to pay for a book every month.

I see how it reads like Silver is $15/month -- we've updated this. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm on the gold plan and all of a sudden, after being an audible customer for YEARS, they start charging me over $16.00/month. I was given No Notice and No Explanation. When I called customer service and questioned,"why the change in my price per month?" I was told taxes! So after all these years, now all of a sudden you want to charge taxes. Better yet, there is NOTHING on the website that audible charges taxes for particular states. I'm really thinking about cancelling my audible membership all together and I have over 100 audio books.
