How to Type in Multiple Languages at Once on Android
Smartphone keyboards have come a long way. While we once had to peck out every letter to type, today’s keyboard apps have multi-word predictions and are totally customizable. Those learning a different language know that using a variety of helpful apps is the best way to learn. Unfortunately, autocorrect causes problems when you try to type Spanish words in English, for instance.
While the stock Google keyboard is great , there are many alternative Android keyboards with expansive feature sets. If you need to type in more than one language, SwiftKey is the keyboard app for you.
After downloading the app, open it on your device and tap Languages. You’ll obviously have your primary language listed here, but can scroll down and tap any of the dozens of other languages to download them. Once you’ve done this, you’re now set to type in multiple languages!
SwiftKey is smart enough to auto-correct words in either language, so you can actually switch languages within a sentence. Thus, typing something like I like hablar about deportes y comida is no problem for SwiftKey. Once you’ve enabled a second language, non-English characters also become available on the keyboard. Holding e, for example, lets you easily type an accented character.
To turn off a new language for a bit, you can disable it in the Languages menu to prevent it from appearing. Language experts will be amazed to know that SwiftKey actually supports typing in up to five languages at once on Android. Those using SwiftKey on iOS are limited to two languages for now.
This and other features make SwiftKey one of the best keyboard apps for Android , and it’s completely free!
