Twitter has released a new update that brings inline image and video previews to its mobile website and apps for Android and iOS. Additionally, it has also tied up with BBC to provide video news to its users.
“Starting today, timelines on Twitter will be more visual and more engaging: previews of Twitter photos and videos from Vine will be front and center in Tweets. To see more of the photo or play the video, just tap,” Twitter said in a blog post.
The update also brings easy access to common Twitter tools, such as reply, retweet or favourite. All of these options now appear as shortcuts under any tweet in your timeline.
Of course, most of these features were already available in third-party Twitter apps like Tweet7 and .
After the launch of @eventparrot to update users of breaking news, Twitter has now tied up with the BBC as part of its Twittery Amplify video promotion tool.
The new partnership will have BBC Global News providing in-tweet video clips that complement its global news gathering operation.
“What makes this partnership exciting is the amazing content Twitter users will get from BBC Global News, no matter where they are in the world,” said Glenn Brown, Senior Director of Twitter Amplify.
BBC.com has already begun production of a new in-Tweet broadcast, #BBCTrending, which will gives users the inside story behind the latest trending phenomena on social networks. It will launch later this autumn.
