Our phones are extremely personal; some people now even see their phone as more treasured than their wallet. Because of this, most folks are prone to checking their phones all the time to keep up with information and friends important to them.

If you're curious, it's a fun idea to see how often you check your phone daily. Whether you want to get better battery life by having the screen on less often or want to curb your smartphone addiction, every smartphone owner should find out how glued they are to their phones. Here's how to do it easily.

A simple app called Checky (on Android and iOS) will record each time you wake your phone, letting you see just how many times you pick up and check your device. Checky shows you how many times you've used your phone today so far, compares that to the prior day, and shows you a nice graph so you can check your usage over time.

It's not a fancy app by any means, but it accomplishes the job. Unfortunately, Checky is a bit limited in that it only measures when you wake your phone, not how long you spend with the screen on. You could wake the phone 100 times and only use it for ten seconds each time to respond to a text, versus unlocking it 20 times and using it for ten minutes each time.

If you're resolving to spend less time on your phone, check out how to cut out screen time with alternative activities.

Try installing Checky and using it for 24 hours, then let us know how many times you checked your phone in a day! Do you use any other methods to track your phone usage?
