The Top 8 Sites to Find Song Lyrics Online

Emma Roth Updated 20-04-2020

Have you ever had the experience of hearing a new song on the radio, only to find that the radio host never states the name of the song? While this has become less of a problem thanks to music streaming services, it’s still an issue for those of us who still like to tune into the radio every once in a while.

When you hear an unidentified song on the radio or in a store, the only way to find the song’s name is to memorize a snippet of the lyrics and look it up online. Here are some of the top lyrics websites that can help you finally find the songs you’ve been searching for.

1. Lyrics

Lyrics.com Best Lyrics Websites

If you’re looking for a trustworthy lyrics site, Lyrics is a good choice. The homepage displays popular artists and lyrics on the left sidebar, while a handy search bar resides on the top of the page, allowing you to search by lyric, song, or artist.

As you type your search, relevant results appear under the bar, making it easy to hop directly to a song or artist page. When you find the song you’re looking for, Lyrics will present you with song lyrics, a music video, as well as some brief trivia about the song and the artist.

2. MetroLyrics

Upon visiting MetroLyrics, you’ll see the latest news in the world of music, and that includes the latest songs and music videos. On the top menu bar, you can browse through the top 100 lyrics, watch a variety of videos, find out more music news in Features, and check out popular artists.

The search bar on MetroLyrics doesn’t work all that great—typing the name of a song or artist in the bar will yield irrelevant Google results. However, you can get around that by using the search bar’s built-in alphabetical search feature, which isn’t very convenient.

3. LyricsMode

LyricsMode homepage

On LyricsMode’s homepage, you’ll find a feed of the hottest lyrics and newly-added song meanings. You can even check out the most popular lyrics in different languages.

Better yet, LyricsMode’s search feature is highly accurate, and won’t flood the page with unrelated results—you can opt to type an artist, song, or album into the search bar, or simply search by letter.

LyricsMode lets its community correct lyrics, as well as ascribe meanings to certain lyrics. Clicking on a highlighted lyric will show you the community’s interpretation of that line. These meanings aren’t always the most accurate, but some are pretty insightful.

4. AZLyrics

Search for lyrics on AZLyrics

Out of all the lyric sites on this list, AZLyrics is the most simple, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s been one of the best websites for song lyrics since 2000, and it still stays up-to-date.

The homepage greets you with a search bar, as well as links to the lyrics of the hottest songs. Scroll down the page, and you’ll see a list of newly-released albums.

When you perform a search, the site automatically displays any artists, songs, or albums related to your search. There are no distracting ads on AZLyrics. Instead of plastering ads all over your screen, they’re limited to the top and bottom banners of each page.

5. Genius

I have seen many Hindi songs lyrics in online. But none of the sites seems to me very dynamic and user friendly.

I have found a lyrics website which is most dynamic and easy navigation system with user submitted lyrics option and also has large number of lyrics taxonomy name with video archives. Even though they don't have large collection as it is new sites but you would never see such interface and options which the site is currently providing. Take a look at lyricsyard.com and let me know your opinion.

Is there a lyric search that allows to categorize by the decade the song was released in? I was searching for a song with knowing a repeating part of a song of several na's in it, and the song is either from the 70s or the 80s, and it's a rock song, since I listened to the song a few times in the last year or so on a radio station with only the classic rock songs. All 5 of these website didn't work for sh*t with me.

Like the only one that could've worked with me was lyrics.com, but it's too hard to look for the song, and I don't exactly have all the time to look for it.

Nevermind. I found out the song. Turned out that it was produced in 1967, which is when my parents was born. Found it through Youtube. My opinion: F*ck these sites. I'll stick to Youtube and Pandora permanently while looking for a song to listen to.

The song that I was looking for: Hush by Deep Purple

~FIRST THINGS FIRST ~ "YES, I know this is an old post!" I've tried them all with several of the same songs to see the comparison and difference in the words and I'm sure most or all of you have had the experience that I discovered, which is "No two are the same." It's frustrating, especially when you know all the lyrics except 1 line or you can't understand that 1 word in a new song!
{EXAMPLE} ~ I'm looking for some type of confirmation to the first word of a new song. I can understand everything else in the song except the very first word. I thought it was "Steady" well, clearly no one else knows either. I researched all 5 sites and got 4 different words. Two of them had "Steady" but then I got, "stay" "sting" and the most irrelevant one said "sound" so I'm pretty convinced no one really cares enough to actually do the research involved in providing us with the correct lyrics. It made me wish for the days when people would actually go to a record store, buy a cd, open it up (with a hammer, a knife, your car keys, & a light saber) and find the lyrics inside "FROM THE ARTIST," Now, that was the good old days, HaHa, well, at least we knew they were right!

I'm looking for the artist of this song, I have a lot of the words (Not all I sequence but enough so that it should generate some result.

It starts of: I'm having a good time, so relax... Chorus - You know I feel wonderful, wonderful that she does. You know I feel good. I feel wonderful, wonderful that she does. You know that I feel good yeah... Wonderful things that she does (Make you feel so good), wonderful things that she does.

It sounds very similar to Jamie a quick - Style and voice

Sites that alphabetize by first names are semi-literate. Your # 1 site has the flimsiest number of lyrics per artist of them all. None of the sites allows corrections except Metro. I really don't understand your criteria for rating the sites.

Sound Upload's Lyrics section allows you to search by the lyrics within a song too, so you can either search by Artist, Song Title or any lyrics you know within the song. :)

sing365.com/ is the most accurate. Hell for Lady GaGa it's the only one who has Starstruck song correct (It's dre headphones not dirty headphones like most lyrics sites have it) and also says the correct lyrics to Just Dance (her official lyrics she says ok not okay). And has Shaggy's Freaky Girl lyrics correct (Shaggy says alongside the Kraft not Christ)

The best way to do all this is NOT TO ALLOW USERS TO SUBMIT LYRICS. Because most go by either what they think the artist says, copy and paste lyrics from other sites or they try and make the lyrics grammatically correct instead of the way the artist wrote them.

If the lyrics aren't "Official" they shouldn't be posted. Official means the exact words, typed exactly like the artist typed them. And unfortunately no lyrics site only uses official lyrics thus none are all that accurate.

Some of these websites you have listed are not even allowed to display copyrighted material and essentially stealing from artists.

Only Lyrics.com, Lyricsmode.com and Metrolyrics.com are legal and actually compensate the artists.

You also need to factor in good search engine optimization. When you type the lyrics in google who comes up first? That is how most people search for lyrics as not all websites will have them.

thanks for the review. Look for a complete http://www.metrolyrics.com redesign. We will take your search results confusion comments seriously. Just a note relative to lyrics web sites: most of the sites are not in compliance with copyright laws. MetroLyrics is the first lyrics dedicated web site converting to a legal database by partnering with Gracenote. We do pay lyrics and song writers copyright holders each time their lyrics are displayed on metrolyrics.com.

      July 15, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Sorry metrolyrics.com sucks. It's never accurate and they won't allow for copying and pasting for lyrics. If any site really wants to make the lyrics be accurate, they will stop allowing users to submit lyrics and they themselves will only submit official lyrics. And if they don't have the official lyrics they need to state on the page the lyrics aren't official.

I recommend MiniLyrics. A plugin which supports almost all popular media players. The advantage is that it automatically finds the lyrics from the Internet and they are synchronized. It means MiniLyrics will show you current line which is being sung in the song. And it has a huge database of songs which gets updated daily by users worldwide.
