I can never quite escape the pervasive appeal of electronic music. With this edition of Sound Sunday I present you the transition from last week's chiptune & video game music to different variations of the electronic genre, including classical and ambient music. It goes without saying that this edition covers a broad range of genres, despite what may seem like a narrow focus.

New Wave Syria - Summer

Genre: experimental, electronic, ambient, lo-fi

From their Facebook page: "Analogue synthesizers, DIY philosophy and circuit-bending were the main influences that had a strong impact on their music. They find their music closer to rock'n'roll rather than typical electronic production. When making music and playing live they use various synthesizers, drum machines and other electronic gadgets. The characteristics of their music are distorted melodies and beats, contrast between quiet and loud and vocals run through effects."

iamthemorning - ~

Genre: acoustic, indie, classical, piano, strings, chamber rock

From their Facebook profile: "iamthemorning is a neo-classical vocal indie band from St.Petersburg, Russia with a sound unique to the Russian music scene. All instrumentalists in the band have higher classical education, and the vocalist is self-taught. iamthemorning combine non-typical but easily perceived vocal parts of progressive rock with a distinctly classical musical approach when it comes to the arrangements, creating music that fell between the orchestrated meditations of Phillipp Glass and the abstract poetics of Maynard James Keenan."

EP: Matthias Boss & André D - Violins for bass

Genre: experimental, ambient, classical

From the album page: "There's nothing wrong with Camomille's humble beginnings : basement dwellers with laptops, software and the occasional field recording sculpting electronic music from the ground up. Still today we value that sort of creativity. But when you come face to face with music created by the likes of Swiss and French duo Matthias Boss & André D., the word free music takes on a whole other meaning. Their improvisations are gusts of smoke and fire : poetic and free of shackles, they disperse and overtake. Violent, refined and steady."

Doyeq - Never Back

Genre: electronic, bass, glitch, piano, strings

From the album page: "Slightly remaining works of Swod or any other piano based contemporary masters Never Back shows the same approach but the firm spirit and touch of Doyeq. A lot, really a lot of live instrumentals including stings, pianos, sax and double bass mixed together with glitch micro percussion and analog synth sparks. Warm, profound, cozy and soothing stuff and it’s truly cinematic. So the whole album is just a classic favorite one for us for sure."
