TextPort is a simple web service that lets you send text messages to any US based mobile phones. It works for most US based carriers and is a completely free service. You also have the option to include your email address so the mobile phone user can send a response. The mobile phone user can simply reply to the text message and it will arrive in your email inbox.
If you reply to the email, your message will be sent to the recipient’s phone, allowing you to have a two-way conversation. TextPort uses the email address assigned to every mobile phone number by their carrier (for example firstname.lastname@example.org) to transfer these messages. Messages have a limit of 140 characters. Using TextPort, you can also send messages to other countries for a small charge.
