The Anniversary Update for Windows 10 brought a lot of interesting new tricks and features to try, including badges for apps in the Taskbar. A badge is the small number that will tell you things like how many new messages you have, etc.
It would be nice if you could toggle them on/off on a per-app basis, but that’s currently not possible. You can only turn them on/off completely.
To do so, open the Start Menu and search for the Settings app and launch it. Navigate to Personalization > Taskbar and scroll down until you see Show badges on taskbar buttons — enable it or disable it, however you want.
Note that badges only work for apps that are Universal Windows Apps. While you’re at it, why don’t you check out these other features of Windows 10 that we think you’ll like?
