For most, TeamViewer is the best remote desktop tool. It lets you connect to someone else’s PC with little effort, and offers plenty of features that make it a pleasure to use. The other party can even use it without installing anything.
But did you also know that you can set up permanent access to your own computer with TeamViewer? This lets you control your PC from any other machine, and is a great emergency tool.
To set this up, download and install TeamViewer if you haven’t already. Once you have it installed, click the Connection tab and select Setup unattended access. Give your PC a name, so you can recognize it if you add more computers to TeamViewer. Then add a password to protect the remote connection.
Next, the software asks you to create a TeamViewer account if you aren’t already signed in. Here you can create a new account, sign into yours, or pass on creating one.
If you don’t create an account, you’ll receive a unique ID that you need to note so you can access the computer later. On another computer, install TeamViewer and enter that ID into the Connect field, then provide the password you specified earlier. You’ll then connect to the remote machine.
If you sign in to an account, TeamViewer will add the computer to your list of devices. Then, when signed into the TeamViewer desktop app on another machine, you can easily connect to the remote computer by just double-clicking its name.
On the computer you’re connecting to, make sure to click the Grant easy access option so you don’t have to type the password to connect every time.
We recommend you create a TeamViewer account to make this process easier. And remember, you can’t connect to the machine if it’s turned off, so make sure it’s set up not to sleep.
