Well, when we talk about Movie411, at least we won’t be asking if it could be cheaper. Movie411 is a free software that enables you to quickly search and download movie information and DVD box art (both front and back covers).
The question whether Movie411 can be any simpler than the other movie collection managers is also partially answered – Movie411 is a portable application. Let’s check it out in more detail and completely answer the question.
Imagine, a Movie Organizer You Can Carry In Your Pocket
The portable Movie411 (ver. 1.3.5) downloads before you can say, ‘Why is it called Movie411?’ At 199KB it’s a perfect app for your Flash drive. Click on the EXE file and Movie411 opens to reveal the interface you will be working with.
Movie411 works with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
Movie411 Is As Simple As It Gets
Using Movie411 is as simple a task as entering the name of a movie and clicking on Search. The software uses the index on DVDEmpire.com to come up with matching titles in the search results. Now, all you have to do is scroll through the list of hits and select the one you want. You can see if your selection is the right one from the thumbnail preview of the cover.
Choose a Save Location for the movie information you want to download. Preferably, set it to the folder of the movie on your HDD. Alternatively, you can set it to a general location from where you can copy-paste the information to the specific folder holding the video. You do not need to have the movie folder in order to run the software.
Select the Save Options. You can uncheck the ones you don’t want. But if you check all three, this is what you get:
Details of a movie is collected in a single, easy to read text file (Info.txt) that you can store along with the video file of the movie. The info includes a synopsis, cast & crew details, and important information like the runtime length, video and audio details among other things.
Front and Back covers are high-resolution versions downloaded from the source like DVDEmpire.com. Clicking on the preview enlarges the cover image.
Using the Rename Options you can change the folder and video name to the right one as selected from the list.
Clicking on Save downloads the Info.txt file along with the high-resolution front and back covers of the movie.
Movie411 Is a Neat Solution That Fills Up the Blanks
Movie411 is not a catalog manager or a movie library manager but more of a software that rounds of the missing details in each folder that holds a movie file. It is a simple solution to a problem that gets worse because we procrastinate over organizing our growing collection of video files. There’s no batch processing of course, so you have to do it one at a time.
Even in its plainness, I wished they would have included a few more sources to choose from for the movie details. The site hints at it, but the software only shows DVDEmpire.com as the sole online database. But it hasn’t failed me so far as I went on a hunt for TV Series, documentaries, and movie details. The search results have also indirectly helped me discover new titles that I had missed.
