Roku is now offering a selection of free episodes of shows from its Premium Subscriptions. Which means you can get a taste of shows such as On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Godfather of Harlem, and America The Story of Us without paying a dime.

Roku Offers Premium Subscriptions

The Roku Channel plays host to a wide range of free content, but there are also Premium Subscriptions available for those willing to pay for the privilege. These Premium Subscriptions include HBO, EPIX, SHOWTIME, STARZ, History Vault, and Acorn TV.

In August 2019, HBO launched a site called Recommended by Humans. This recommends shows, movies, and documentaries based on user reviews. And some of this content is available to watch for free in the hopes you'll then subscribe.

Try Premium Content for Free on Roku

Roku is now doing something similar. As outlined in a post on The Roku Blog, The Roku Channel now includes a selection of free episodes from shows usually only accessible through Premium Subscriptions. You won't need a subscription or to sign up for a free trial.

You can now watch free episodes of shows including On Becoming a God in Central Florida (SHOWTIME), Godfather of Harlem (EPIX), America The Story of Us (HISTORY Vault), Heartland (Dove Channel), and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (Acorn TV), amongst others.

Signing Up for a Premium Subscription

While free content is always good, this obviously isn't a completely charitable affair. By giving you a taste of some of the shows available through Premium Subscriptions, Roku is hoping you'll then sign up to begin a free trial of one or more of them.

However, there's no obligation to sign up for anything, so only do so if a show really draws you in. And if the idea of paying to watch television shows and movies sickens you, here are the best free Roku channels everyone should install on their Roku box.
