If you have a private Instagram account, you can easily remove followers from seeing your posts. Instagram appears to be slowly rolling out this feature to public accounts as well, primarily on Android.

While it's obvious why a private user might want to remove a follower, public accounts can also benefit from this feature.

How to Remove Followers on Instagram

To remove followers on Instagram, do the following:

  1. Tap your profile photo in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Followers at the top of the screen.
  3. In the list of followers, you can either search for the username or scroll to the follower you want to remove and tap the three dots next to the Follow/Following button.
  4. In the window that pops up, tap Remove.

Followers won't receive a notification that they are no longer following you, but they'll still be able to see your content if the visit your profile.

If you don't want a follower to see your content at all, you'll have to block them instead. You can do this by going to their profile page, and tapping the three dots in the top right corner. In the menu that pops up, tap Block.

Removing followers is just one of many new features Instagram has been introducing that gives its users more control over their privacy. Instagram allows users to turn off the Last Online feature so other users can't see when you were last online, and also offers users two-factor authentication to keep accounts secure.
