We've reviewed our share of trivia games here at MakeUseOf, whether it's movie quizzes, NASA quizzes, pixel quizzes or logo quizzes. We've even created a quiz or two for our readers, but we have finally found the one quiz app to end all quiz apps.

QuizUp is a trivia game which pits you against competitors from all over the world, in an endless series of trivia questions. Currently it's available only for the iPhone, but there's an Android version of the game in the works.

How Does QuizUp Work?

The first thing you have to do is sign up for a free account. You can do this either by connecting your Facebook account (which serves another purpose within the game) or you can simply sign up using your email address. The advantage to connecting your Facebook account, as well as your Twitter and Game Center accounts, is that it will show you which of your friends are using the app.

This in turn allows you to challenge them to a trivia duel. If you'd rather not link your Facebook account to a gaming app, there is no shortage of people using the app looking for random opponents.

Once you're signed in, you can select a topic of your choice and launch straight into a short challenge. There's quite a variety of topics – everything from standard classroom fare to more elaborate pop culture. You can identify logos, match the country with the flag, name the celebrity, and show off your knowledge of everything from beer to mathematical equations. There's something for everyone here.

Each challenge consists of seven questions, and the faster you answer them, the more points you get. The person with the most points at the end of each round wins. The better versed you are in a certain topic, the more points you will accumulate.

Endless Quizzes & Opponents

The scoring system in QuizUp is quite an elaborate one. At the end of each round you will accumulate points for the match score, a finish bonus, a victory bonus (if you win) and you can also get a power up bonus. Once the game is over, you have the option of playing another opponent on the same topic, or challenging your opponent to another duel.

You can also chat with your opponent, check out the rankings for each given topic, and take part in discussions about that topic in a forum-like section in the app. If you're really fanatic about your quizzes, you can drill down to see how many points you and your opponent earned per round, and even see the results laid out on a line graph.

QuizUp4

QuizUp is a wildly popular game in the App Store, and can often be found in the top 5 most popular free apps available. Because of its popularity, you're always going to find someone to play against, no matter the time of day.

One of the app's best features is the sheer variety of topics. If you want to exercise your brain, you can opt for some challenging quizzes that will test your knowledge, or if you want to have a little bit of fun, you can go for an entertainment-related topic. Another really cool feature is that it lets you know which country your opponent comes from, so you can really get a sense of just how popular the game is and how many people from all over the world are taking part.

Not only can you take part by taking the quizzes, you can also contribute to the app by submitting topics and questions of your own for consideration.

Move Over Trivia Pursuit

QuizUp boasts 150,000 questions and 280 topics, but if we had one complaint it's that after playing just a few rounds in the same topic we came across repeated questions. With that number of questions, addicted as we are to the game, we would have expected to use it for a little while longer before that started happening.

Other than that, we really can't think of a reason for you not to download QuizUp to your iPhone for a world of trivia and fun.
