Microsoft Outlook remains one of the most widely used desktop email clients. If you use it, you know that Outlook’s default search is powerful enough to handle a few megabytes worth of emails in your Outlook inbox. If you are a heavy email user, you’ll need a more powerful email search tool. Lookeen is a Microsoft Outlook add-on that introduces accelerated search to the email client and is also an integrated desktop search tool.
How does Lookeen add to the Office experience? Try it for yourself! This week, we’re giving away 25 copies of Lookeen worth close to $1000 in total. Read on to find out more about what Lookeen can do for you and join the giveaway.
Lookeen is compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 and Exchange Server 2003, 2007 and 2010. It is a compact 6.78 MB download that installs in under a minute. Lookeen has a simple interface that does not interfere with the toolbar or the Ribbon in the desktop email client.
The Benefits of a Speedier Search
Lookeen is described as a “mission-critical” add-on that improves your productivity because your search for an elusive email (also attachments, appointments, tasks, notes and contacts) among all your personal folder files or shared network drives is over within seconds. Lookeen is unobtrusive and does not hamper your normal workflow. Lookeen can dig amidst 100 GB of data without loss in performance.
Lookeen ‘Finds’ With Its Fast Index-Based Search
Lookeen is a full-fledged enterprise search solution for emails. It seamlessly fits in with Microsoft Exchange Server and streamlines personal email search as well as search across a wider network of users. Lookeen not only silently indexes emails in each user’s own Outlook folders but also builds a central “shared index”.
The central shared index systemizes all public documents or large public files in the company network which is accessed by many users on an exchange-server. Users don’t have to build an index individually, thus saving the network from bottlenecks and wasted time. Users can browse through personal indexes on their computers and external indexes at the same time. Lookeen not only indexes Outlook folders but it is also an integrated desktop search tool.
Lookeen’s Professional Document Search
In Microsoft Outlook 2010, Lookeen gets a tab of its own. Older Microsoft Office versions will display Lookeen as a toolbar. You have to simply enter a search text and press Enter or the double arrow.
The search results window opens up and Lookeen gives you a set of tools which help you to dig down into the search results. Keywords are highlighted and you can preview each mail. Lookeen arranges all that it finds according to the search term into tabs. For instance, there’s a tab for Mail, Files, Attachments, Contacts, Tasks, Meetings, Appointments, Notes, and Journals. Everything in Outlook is searchable with Lookeen. You can use different search parameters to hunt for information – for e.g. you can limit the search to a specific file format, such as DOC, XLS or PDF (and more).
A few colored buttons next to the search bar give you more options like summarizing an email, giving you an overview of a conversation, filtering emails by time period, and an analysis of your search hits too.
You also get these options (and more) when you open a context menu with a right click:
Document management is an arduous chore; Lookeen helps you get back some control if you are sinking under mountains of gigabytes.
