Xbox One owners will soon be able to test their survival skills in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The online shooter has, until now, been exclusive to PC, but it’s now confirmed to be coming to the Xbox One in December. Unfortunately for Sony fans, a PS4 version hasn’t yet been announced.
PUBG Slays the Competition
We wouldn’t normally report on the non-story that a PC game is coming to Xbox One. However, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is clearly an exception to the rule. Mainly by virtue of its incredible rise to the top of the online gaming league table over the last eight months or so.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG for short, is an online shooter which sees 100 players dropped into a map. They must then loot weapons, armor, and other items, and fight for survival. This is a Hunger Games style affair, so the winner is the last man standing at the end.
PUBG has been available on Steam Early Release since March, and has since sold millions of copies to become the most popular game on Steam. The Version 1.0 of PUBG is set to be released on PC by the end of the year, and the game is considered finished enough to justify an Xbox One release.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be released on the Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview program on December 12, 2017. Just like the PC version, this is expected to be a work-in-progress, and not the final version of the game. The Xbox One version of PUBG will be priced at $29.99.
There’s Something About PUBG
Something about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has lifted it above the competition . And that’s despite its terrible name. There are bound to be copycats stealing the idea of pitching players against each other in a Battle Royale style, but PUBG did it first, and gamers have responded.
Have you played PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC yet? If so, do you love or hate the game, or have no strong feelings either way? How do you feel about PUBG coming to the Xbox One? Is it a day one purchase for you? Please let us know in the comments below!
