Pandora has launched a Premium Family Plan which buys up to six people access to Pandora Premium for just $14.99/month. This puts Pandora on a par with Spotify and Apple Music, both of which already offer family plans at the same price point.
Pandora Premium Joins the Party
In March 2017, Pandora Radio launched Pandora Premium, a premium music streaming service designed to compete with Spotify and Apple Music. Priced at the standard $9.99/month, Pandora Premium is Pandora's attempt at muscling in on the big boys.
Pandora Premium offers on-demand listening, custom playlists, offline downloads, high quality audio, and no ads. The problem is trying to persuade existing users of other music streaming services to switch. Which is where the family plan comes into play.
What Is Pandora Premium Family?
Pandora has launched its new Premium Family Plan, albeit without any fanfare. As detailed on the Pandora Help pages, Pandora Premium Family Plan offers "all of the features of Pandora Premium to up to six unique Pandora accounts simultaneously".
The Pandora Premium Family Plan is priced at $14.99/month, which is just $5 more than a regular Pandora Premium subscription. Each member retains their own account, so this is just a way of sharing the cost; six people would pay just $2.50/month each.
To switch to a Pandora Premium Family Plan, just go into the Settings on either the web or the mobile app, click "Subscription", and then select "Pandora Premium Family". To add or remove users just click "Manage Family" and enter the relevant details.
Pandora Faces Stiff Competition
Pandora needed to launch a family plan to stand any chance against Spotify and Apple Music. While Pandora Radio has 80 million users, it has so far only managed to convert six million of them to Pandora Premium. Spotify has 70 million paying customers.
