    I've been using an app called SkedPal for some time. It has just come out of an extended beta testing period (though it has always been extremely stable). It works by using fuzzy reasoning to allocate tasks to time slots, and integrates with Google or Exchange calendars. Tasks are allocated to Projects within Areas (e.g. Home, Work, Family, ...), and can be made sub-tasks of others. The algorithm takes into account the estimated time needed for a task, the minimum time to allocate to a task in one chunk, priority, etc. So I can take a look at my day including fixed appointments and the allocated tasks at a glance. It is in many ways the opposite to the Getting Things Done approach of only putting fixed items on the calendar, but I find it works much better for me.
