Parents need to be more aware of their child’s progress in the classroom. Unfortunately, neither parents nor the teachers usually have enough time for regular meetings to discuss the progress of the students and areas that require improvement. What is required is a simple communication platform that lets teachers reach out to the parents whenever required to inform them important news or important events that they should know about. This can be achieved without an actual meeting, all thanks to a tool called Kikutext.
Kikutext is a free to use web service for teachers and parents in the US. Basically, teachers can sign up for an account and create a course page. You can then have parents subscribe to your course page and receive SMS alerts for any news you share. You can inform parents of a particular students not handing in their assignment or a student showing improvement in class participation. In this way, the parents are shared not only the bad news but also the good news whenever there is any.
To subscribe to your course page, parents do not have to sign up for an account on the website. What they have to do is have your class code that is generated by the Kikutext website. They text this code to a phone number that Kikutext assigns to your class page. From then onwards, teachers are able to quickly reach the parents via SMS.
Parents can choose to unsubscribe from the service anytime they want. The free account on the site supports 60 outgoing messages/month, 2 classes and up to 15 parents; the premium account costs $10 per month and offers unlimited messages, 7 classes and up to 170 parents.
