Soon after getting my long-awaited iPhone a couple of months back, I immediately started using Instagram, on the advice of a friend. It’s a great app to use but I wouldn’t say I am addicted. Would I spend hours every day taking arty photos through different coloured lenses, and then getting people to like them and leave comments? Nah, I can think of better things to do, like enjoying the warm embrace of a good woman, hearing a baby laugh, waking up and smelling the roses, or cracking level 63 of Angry Birds. You know, important stuff.
But there are people out there totally addicted to Instagram, people who see an empty McDonalds wrapper in the street and decide it’s art, and begin clicking away with their phone to get the perfect shot. In case you were looking for a guide to spotting Instagram addicts (maybe to photograph them and put them on Instagram? That would be a novel concept!) then our infographic today offers to help you out.
The first thing to look for is the phone constantly held up to the face. That’s a big warning sign right there. Then begin looking for the intense concentration as items are carefully placed in exact positions and the lighting is checked. Then just walk up to them and ask casually “so what’s y0ur username on Instagram?”. Then marvel at them scratching their heads and wondering how the hell you knew that. Or maybe they will scowl at you for ruining their shot.
Are YOU an Instagram junkie? If so, what other signs should we be watching out for to realise your addiction?
