How to Order an Echo Dot Without an Amazon Echo

It hasn’t been long since the Amazon Echo debuted but it can already be considered a resounding success. The Echo is really useful, comes at a great price, buyers have a lot of good things to say about it — and Amazon is really capitalizing on it with the Echo Dot.

For those who don’t know, the Echo Dot is a cheaper version of the Echo, but it has all of the same features that make the original awesome. The problem is that you can only order the Echo Dot with an actual Echo, so if you just want the Echo Dot on its own, you’re out of luck…

…except that there’s a workaround.

The workaround is surprisingly simple for Android:

  • Download the Amazon Shopping app.
  • Launch it and sign into your account.
  • Begin a voice search: “Add Echo Dot to cart.”
  • In the results, tap “Add to Cart” for the Echo Dot.
  • Tap “Proceed to checkout” to complete the order.

And it’s even simpler for iOS:

  • Download the Amazon Shopping app.
  • Launch it and sign into your account.
  • Search for “Echo Dot”.
  • In the results, swipe right on the Echo Dot to immediately add it to your cart, then check out as normal.

It’s unclear how long these workarounds will stay valid, but if you really want an Echo Dot, you might as well give it a shot. Considering all the amazing things you can do with it, it’d be well worth the effort. It also makes for an awesome gift for friends and family.
