Snapchat offers a great way to creatively share your day-to-day moments with your loved ones. But sometimes you don't want a certain user to contact you anymore.

Blocking someone on Snapchat is easy. And unblocking them is even easier. So, whether you're looking to cut off relations with a Snap friend or want to mend a broken friendship, here is a step-by-step process of blocking and unblocking friends on Snapchat.

How to Block Someone on Snapchat

Once you block someone on Snapchat, they won't be able to see your Stories, contact you directly, or send you Snaps.

If you want to block a specific Snapchat contact, follow these steps:

  1. Open Snapchat and swipe right to go to the Chats list.
  2. Scroll through your list until you find the person you want to block. Tap their Avatar to open up their profile page. Now hit the three dots in the top right-hand corner of their profile. You can also directly hold their Avatar to bring up this menu.
  3. Go to Manage Friendship > Block.
  4. A pop-up window will open up asking you to confirm this action. Simply tap Block again to restrict their access to you.

A user will not be notified when you block them on the platform. But telling if someone blocked you on Snapchat is easy. This means they'll likely figure it out when your account doesn't appear when they search for it. The user will be able to see any saved messages in your chat history and take screenshots of it. You won't be notified of these screenshots either.

It's worth noting that blocking someone will also remove them from your friend list. But they will simply be restricted from contacting you. So, if you think that they violated a guideline of the platform, consider reporting the user on Snapchat instead.

How to Unblock Someone on Snapchat

You can allow a restricted user to contact you again by unblocking them. Here's how you can unblock a user on Snapchat:

  1. Tap your Avatar on the top left and go to Settings by hitting the gear icon on the top left.
  2. Scroll down until you reach the Privacy Controls section.
  3. Tap Blocked users to open a list of users that you've restricted.
  4. To unblock a specific person, scroll down until you find their username. Then click the X beside their name.
  5. A pop-up will open up asking you to confirm this action. Simply hit Yes to unblock the user.

When unblocking a user, you'll have the option to add them again. Simply search for their username and tap the add button to send a request. You'll have to wait for them to accept this request before you're able to contact the user again.

Once this user accepts your request, you both can send and receive Snaps. You'll also be able to access your chat history again. But you won't receive the Snaps and messages that the blocked user sent when they were restricted from contacting you.

Managing Your Friendships on Snapchat Is Easy

Blocking a friend who's annoying you on Snapchat can help you get mental peace. On the other hand, unblocking them will offer you both a fresh start. Fortunately, blocking and unblocking users on Snapchat is super easy.

The platform will also always show a pop-up asking you to confirm these actions. This ensures you don't accidentally restrict or unblock someone. But you should still be careful with who you add as a friend. It's alright to be picky and not accept every request that comes your way.
