The problem is, it’s not available to everyone just yet.

If you have the functionality already, you can head over to Settings > Chats and calls and see if there is a Chat backup option. The update is a staggered one, meaning not all users are going to get it at the same time. If you’re feeling slighted, don’t worry, there is another way.

If you go to the WhatsApp website with your mobile device, you can download the official APK file and install it yourself. First, uninstall the old version of WhatsApp from your device, then execute the new version (which should end up in your Downloads folder).

Note: After installing, some users noted a prompt claiming that a WhatsApp update was available from the Play Store. Don’t download this as it will actually be the older version. If you update, you’ll just be reverting and you’ll lose the new feature.

Am I missing something? I can't see where it explains how to do this. If it's as simple as enabling the back-up feature in Whatsapp then where are the chats stored in GoogleDrive, I can't find a folder.

If you're saying there's nothing in the Chats and calls section when you click it, you might want to delete, and try re-installing the app. Or, you can do the update manually if it still isn't working. It's really simple.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I have the feature enabled but where in Google drive is the folder with the chat messages? If it's backing up to GD then there must be a folder.

Okay, I gotcha now. Sorry for misunderstanding. I honestly can’t help you there. For me it was really plug and play. I’m not sure why you’re not seeing a folder. You should try contacting WhatsApp:
