The tools that let you back up files on your computer usually back up your data in two ways. One way is when your entire data (including all files and folders) is backed up fresh every time, and another way is when only the changed files are backed up and the unchanged files and folders are simply linked to from the new backup source. The second option, called incremental backup, is more storage effective since it doesn’t store the unchanged duplicate data every time it does backup.

If you are more comfortable with incrementally backing up your data, check out HardlinkBackup. It is a simple and fast backup program, which uses hard links  to store data. It reads the source directories and compares the files with previous backups and then copies only the modified files. If an old backup copy is no longer needed it can be safely deleted.

It is important to note that the underlying system has to be formatted with NTFS and requires Microsoft .NET 4 Framework. While the website of the developer is in German, the program is available in English. This is the most confusing software i have ever downloaded. There are several windows and dialog boxes and i have no idea whats written on it. Wondering why things have to be so complicated when they can just write in simple language what is what.

Actually what i am looking for is a pretty simple back up tool..incremental for sure where i can schedule my back ups automatically where in at a given time my files will be backed up. My main 2 needs are :

    1) Once the intial first back up is uploaded the back up shud happen only for my new and modified files over a period of time.
    2) And for modified files the backup tool shud replace the original file in the cloud or online.

    Does Hardlink provide this facility?
