Instagram wants to give its users every tool they need to become better smartphone photographers. It has introduced ten new features in the latest update that should give you more control over a photo’s look. It also takes Instagram from being a mere “photo-filter” app to an editing toolbox.
The ten new features aren’t groundbreaking, but by giving you the control over brightness, saturation, contrast, warmth, shadows, sharpness, and filter strength, among other things you can take the finish of a favorite photo a notch above what it actually is. The new editing features work incrementally with sliders.
Select the Wrench icon when you pick a filter. Tap it and you’ll find a tray of photo editing tools as you can see below in the screenshot. Also, as the last in the series below shows, you can adjust how much of a filter you apply to a photo the filter icon (use double tap).
Die-hard Instagrammers usually have more than one photo app in their kitty. Many users like Camera+ and VSCOcam, which have editing tools built in alongside a slew of filters. The new features on Instagram gives extra control to do all this within the app and thus shorten the time from click to share.
“Inspiring creativity is incredibly important to us—and as the Instagram community grows, we’ve been excited to hear requests for more ways to creatively take hold of how your photos look and feel.” — Instagram
Simple as they are, you can learn how to use them on Instagram’s Help page. The update has already rolled out to the Apple Store and will soon arrive on Google Play. So, Instagrammers – go hands on and tell us if the new features bring something extra to your workflow.
