Remember how you went back to return an unread book to your local store? Returning a Kindle ebook and getting a refund is even easier. There are many honest reasons to return a book after turning a few pages. Dissatisfaction is on top of the list. An accidental purchase by you or a family member is somewhere just below it.
Whatever may be your reason, Amazon graciously gives you a seven-day window to return the Kindle purchase. The Amazon customer support page mentions this in clear language:
1. Log into your Amazon account and head to the Manage Your Content and Devices page.
2. The list of all your book purchases are displayed. Select the Actions button (with the three dots) next to the title you want to return. Select Return for Refund.
3. In the window that pops up, choose a reason for the return. Click the Return for Refund button to confirm your decision. Your request is now processed and you will no longer have access to the Kindle book.
There may be times when you own an ebook and receive the same ebook as a gift. You can easily exchange a Kindle book gift for an Amazon.com Gift Card, if you have not already redeemed the gift. The Amazon support page shows you how.
Use the Return Policy Responsibly
It is just possible that Amazon tracks your returns just as it tracks your purchases. So, please don’t abuse the system. Pick the right book by following book recommendations and drilling through Amazon or GoodReads reviews. Also, prevent accidental purchases by setting strict parental controls on your devices.
