Garmin has just unveiled a new line of luxury smartwatches that feature an extremely hefty price tag and designs specifically targeted at certain activities. In total, Garmin has announced five new models---the Marq Aviator, Marq Driver, Marq Captain, Marq Expedition, and Marq Athlete.

Compared to most other smartwatches, the price of the Marq collection is quite prohibitive, but that's because they're targeted at users who are looking for a high-end watch that doesn't actually look like a smartwatch at all. They're definitely the opposite of a budget smartwatch.

Garmin Marq Smartwatches

As mentioned, Garmin has released a set of five different smartwatches, with each one targeted at specific activities.

First, there's the Marq Aviator, which Garmin says is "comfortable on the wrist for in-flight wear and transitions to a stylish timepiece out of the cockpit." But it's not just the look and feel that makes it designed for flight---it also includes Nexrad Weather Radar, airport information, and Garmin cockpit integration.

From there, Garmin has also shown off the Marq Driver. It comes with over 250 famous race tracks around the world loaded into the watch. It comes with features designed for driving enthusiasts such as auto lap splits, live delta time and a track timer.

For anyone who enjoys time on the water, there's the Marq Captain. It includes a regatta timer bezel, coastal charts, tack assist, and port conditions watch face.

Next, there's the Marq Explorer, which Garmin says is "created with the modern explorer in mind." Features include TOPO mapping, a built-in altimeter, barometer, and compass. It also comes with ClimbPro, a feature designed to provide information on current and upcoming climbs. It's even compatible with the inReach Mini satellite communicator.

Finally, there's the Marq Athlete, which as you can guess from the name, is designed with features that benefit exercise and sports. It comes with a V02 max and recovery time scale right on the bezel. It also includes advanced running dynamics, biometric sensors, and a feature called Pulse Ox that keeps track of the body's oxygen absorption.

Garmin Marq Price and Release Date

Garmin says the Marq watches will be available in the second quarter of 2019. The prices for the watches will vary, but since they're targeted at the luxury crowd, they're pricey. The cheapest models start at $1500 while the most expensive ones retails for $2500.

While these watches seem interesting in terms of features, the Apple Watch is still the king, and in comparison, the Apple Watch is quite cheap.
