2018 is here, so it's time for the first batch of free games for PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Here's what you can download to kick off the new year!

Xbox Live

First up, on Xbox One, you can play The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III. In the final chapter of this action hack and slash game, you play as a monster hunter in a strange land. The other Xbox One title is ZOMBI, a port of a Wii U survival horror game.

Xbox 360 players, as well as Xbox One players through backwards compatibility, can download two other games. The first is Tomb Raider: Underworld, one of Lara Croft's many adventures but not a particularly noteworthy one. Second is Army of Two, a co-op third-person shooter that's designed around teamwork. Note that the servers for online play went offline long ago.

PlayStation Plus

On PS4, players can grab Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, an action/stealth RPG in the long-running franchise. Also on PS4 is Batman: The Telltale Series, giving the Dark Knight the usual Telltale story-driven treatment.

PS3 owners receive Sacred 3, a hack and slash brawler that received mostly negative reviews. You can also download The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, a classic point-and-click game set in a fantasy world.

Finally, those with a PS Vita will receive Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, a visual novel where you follow the story of two detectives. The other Vita game is Uncanny Valley, a 2D survival horror game. Both Vita titles are also available on PS4 thanks to Cross-Buy.

As a bonus, PS Plus members can download Starblood Arena [No Longer Available], an arena space shooter designed for PS VR, free through March 6.
