Facebook: The Board Game (Is It Better Than The Real Thing?)
Whatsapp Pinterest

In an attempt to break free from digital bondage, Pat C. Klein designed a Facebook board game, hoping that it will encourage young people to meet up with friends and engage with one another in person. In some ways, Pat’s idea is quite interesting; and if you’ve been a social pariah so long that you’ve forgotten how to interact with others, well, this could be your lifeline.

As you can see, the game is pretty much based on Monopoly, with Like and Status cards up for grabs. When you land on “Status”, you’ll need to take a Status card which will instruct you to share something about yourself, for instance, “Tell people about something exciting you have planned for the week.”

Do you reckon it will work?

I, personally, don't see this taking off. Some people might get it and play it once or twice, for the oddity factor, however, it looks, and I believe, will be found to be rather bland. Facebook - the online communication tool - has trained its users to ignore the shades of blue by which the board game is coloured. Even reading this review, I found my eyes sliding off the pictures, and I had to consciously concentrate to focus on them. When compared with other boardgames from The Game of Life to Monopoly and onwards to Settlers of Catan or Cuba, there can be no comparison in terms of colour, or involvement, either in the game, or socially.Seriously, if I am to abandon Facebook for something offline and physical, then the last thing I should be looking at is something that draws my attention continually back to Facebook. Ha, I get it. Nice one, Facebook

Personally I think this is a good idea. Besides, it's a refreshing iteration of the ol' monopoly.
