Facebook wants to be much more than just a social network. And today it wants to be LinkedIn. Or at least a viable alternative to LinkedIn. Facebook wants to help you find a new job, being the middleman between you and the business you want to work for.

In 2017, Facebook introduced job listings in the U.S. and Canada. And, according to Facebook, this has proved popular with both businesses and jobseekers. Now, Facebook is expanding its job listings to cover more than 40 countries around the world.

How Facebook's New Job Listings Work

For individuals, Facebook offers several ways to find a new job. There's the Jobs dashboard located at facebook.com/jobs, the Jobs option under Explore on mobile, the Jobs icon in Marketplace, and the Jobs tab on a particular business' page.

If you find a job you're interested in you can create an application, adding information already listed on your Facebook profile. You can then converse with the business directly using Messenger, and subscribe to receive notifications about other jobs of that type.

Businesses can create job listings directly on their page, detailing the job title, job type, salary, and other relevant details. These posts will appear in a number of different places, and businesses can then use Messenger to arrange and schedule interviews.

Delete Those Embarrassing Photos First

Using Facebook to connect with employers is fine, but you will need to maintain a professional front. Posting random photos of nights out and expressing controversial opinions isn't likely to endear you to a company looking to employ the best candidates.

This means that before you even think about applying for a job through Facebook you should make sure you've checked your privacy settings. Because that photo of you passed out drunk on vacation is unlikely to go down well with the human resources manager.

Facebook Connects Employers With Employees

Job listings make a lot of sense for Facebook. There are almost 2 billion potential jobseekers using Facebook, and millions of businesses potentially in need of staff. So, as with Google for Jobs, Facebook is the perfect matchmaker between the two.
