Pinterest is a "search engine" in its own right, and two new updates to Pinterest on mobile should now help with the visual exploration. Pinterest is rolling out Guided Search for trawling through more than 750 million boards with 30 billion Pins. The second announced feature -- Custom Categories then should come into the picture to help you in a more organized way. Guided Categories is being rolled out first on the iPhone, iPad or Android apps and then to the Web. Custom Categories will follow soon.

Guided Search is being described as a new way to find content on Pinterest. With so many pins, boards, and Pinners to search through, Guided Search wants to make it easier to find something within the first few taps. As the name indicates, Guided Search helps you get more specific by diving deeper into each category. The video below illustrates the simplicity of its working.

To summarize – type your search keyword (e.g. home decor). Pinterest displays all the results, but also gives you a few more options in a sliding row at the top. These are just like filters helping you narrow down to exactly what you want (for e.g. DIY, On a Budget, Modern, Vintage etc.). You can keep adding some of the other options with a tap and drill down to the pin you want. Guided Search is very handy and quick as you can search with multiple combinations of these filters.

Custom Categories will follow soon. This feature will allow you to set up a dynamic feed of very specific topics that interest you. Pinterest has improved its Related Pins, and this allows users to find or create custom categories that do not fall in the default broad categories available on the site right now.

Are you an avid Pinterest user? These new features should improve your Pinterest adventures. Tell us your favourite keywords in the comments!
