Ease The Stress On Your Bank Account With “Hey, It’s Free!” [US-Only]
I’m a university student, and as you might be able to guess, I’m all about the free stuff – food, swag, school supplies….I guess it’s just nice when you don’t have to spend what little money you have.
Fortunately, in my StumbleUpon adventures, I was brought into the courts of Hey, It’s Free! (HIF), a nifty little website that has taken on the mission of going out and finding all sorts of free items for you to take advantage of. You might not be interested in some of this stuff, but there’s a chance you might find something (even if it’s a little odd) to grab.
Get Tons Of Stuff For Free
You have to keep in mind that HIF is simply a blog, and with that in mind, the entries may not always be targeted at your personal taste. However, skimming through the site, you will find a variety of everyday items that you can pick up for absolutely nothing at all.
For instance, a while back, HIF author Goob once found a way to get a box of Honey Nut Cheerios totally free of charge. If you’re like me – young, unmarried, and living on a budget – you’ll know that cereal can definitely last a long time (bread, too, if you scrape off the mold… right?). It’s absolutely free stuff like this that makes it worthwhile.
Keep in mind that a lot of this free stuff is typically going to just be of a promotional nature, so don’t expect to find exactly what you want. However, there are a few cool things to check out. One thing HIF was good about was setting up a search function on the site, and that is something I always look for when visiting publications such as this one.
Beyond that, HIF has a full set of categories that you can pick and choose from to find lots of goods. Below are a few things that I found on the site. Some of these may no longer be available since they were just limited offers, but it does just go to show you some of the awesome items that HIF shares with the world.
- Free Amazon $5 Video Credit
- Free Chick-fil-A Breakfast
- Free Redbox Movie Rental
- Free Outback Steakhouse Dinner
Aside from the offers shown here, HIF has a page devoted entirely to coupons. These may not always get you free stuff, but they sure will help things out.
Check Out The Fun Freebies
Besides all the basic stuff, you will find a pretty nifty section of the site called “Top Rated Freebies”. Within this portion of the site, you’ll see a list of items such as “Free Birthday Meals/Gifts”, the “Free Museum Admissions List”, and even “Free Magazines” for those of you who like to read things in hardcopy.
However, let’s talk a little bit about these free birthday meals. Back when I was in high school, while eating at a restaurant, I once saw a good friend eating right across the room. As a prank, I went to the hostess and asked her if she would get the waiters to sing “Happy Birthday” to the poor girl (despite the fact it was not actually her birthday). Unfortunately, this restaurant did not perform such tunes on guests’ birthdays, but the hostess had no problem with me leading the entire restaurant in song. So I did.
As it turned out, my dear friend was so embarrassed that the cooks prepared her a sympathy caramel pie totally free of charge. That being said, there are dozens of restaurants out there just like this one that want to give you free food for your birthday. Fortunately, HIF has set out to find these restaurants (including places such as Spaghetti Warehouse and Red Robin), so you can take advantage of these offers.
We all like free stuff here on MakeUseOf, so why not let that cross over into real-world items, too? Take a gander at Hey, It’s Free!, and you just might be able to find a treasure.
Have you ever found anything on Hey, It’s Free? On what other sites have you been able to find free stuff? Let’s hear about your discoveries in the comments.
