If you use Outlook.com's web interface, there are quite a few quirks you have to get used to. Luckily, some of those quirks can be easily fixed, including the way Outlook handles link previews when you compose messages and paste in links.

One way around it is to simply type in the link: makeuseof.com. In this case, a link preview won't be created. Another option is to embed your links into text in your message, but that can be a hassle if all you're trying to do is share a quick link with contacts.

Instead, you can go in to Outlook's settings and disable the preview in four easy steps:

  1. Go to Settings and under Your app settings, click Mail.
  2. Under Layout click Link Preview.
  3. Uncheck Preview links in Email.
  4. Click Save.

If you actually like the feature but don't want it to always appear in your messages, you can selectively remove the link preview on a case-by-case basis.

After pasting the link into the body of your email, you can remove the link preview by clicking the grey X next to the link:

If you use the mobile or desktop versions of Outlook, the Link preview option is not available to you.
