There are many reasons to prefer Spotify's web player, but one of the downsides is that you can't use keyboard shortcuts like you can with the desktop version of Spotify. (Actually, the desktop version can do a lot that the web player can't.)

But you can get around this limitation by installing the Musicality Music Player extension for Chrome. It also works on other browsers that support Chrome extensions, such as Opera with the Download Chrome Extension extension.

This extension provides nine different playback keyboard shortcuts:

  1. Next Track
  2. Toggle Play/Pause
  3. Previous Track
  4. Toggle Repeat
  5. Toggle Shuffle
  6. Toggle Thumbs Up
  7. Toggle Thumbs Down
  8. Pop Toast
  9. Activate Extension

These keyboard shortcuts can be set as In Chrome (meaning they will only work if Chrome is your current window) or Global (meaning they work even when your browser isn't in focus). In short, now you can control Spotify web playback even when Chrome is minimized!

Other nifty features of Musicality include toast notifications on song change and Last.FM scrobbling. And Musicality works with other web players too, like Amazon Music, Deezer, Google Play Music, Pandora, and YouTube.

One extension to rule them all. Get it now.
