Desktop and mobile device prices on slightly older hardware remain quite good this year. In particular, Intel’s last generation of processor, Ivy Bridge, remains at hot sale prices for most of its devices. Also steeply discounted this week is a Chromebook and a smattering of desktop computers.

If you’re looking for a solid all-in-one PC or a workstation class PC, you’re in luck!

Lenovo K410 Desktop PC

This desktop offers an Ivy Bridge Core i7 CPU, along with a 2TB hard drive, 8GB of RAM and Windows 8. The discrete graphics processor included in this deal offers solid performance but overall may require upgrading if your primary interest is gaming.

Dell Inspiron One 2330 23-inch All-in-One Desktop [Broken URL Removed]

dell inspiron 2330 all in one

  • Price: $619.99; compare to $679.99 MSRP
  • Retailer: Dell – Buy it Now [Broken URL Removed]
  • Coupon code: 7CGSBDFTF3TNBR

This particular all-in-one desktop offers a 23-inch monitor and a G2030 Pentium class CPU. Many all-in-one computers use lower wattage CPUs, in order to keep the units as thin and lightweight as possible. I don’t think the particular CPU used is the best possible choice.

Desktop and laptop computers appear to be dropping in price this month. I marginally prefer the Chromebook, for its price-point, relatively good feature set, steepness of discount, and the potential for installing Ubuntu on it. However, all the prices this week are good, particular for mobile devices.

I had thought you might include some tablets that were not set in the "APPLE" universe. I am disappointed that you seem not to have included any non-apple products in that category. At best value, Apple ipads are 3x the price of any other tablet that could perform the same functions.

I normally cover more Android tablets than Apple. But you make a good point. I try to cover the higher quality devices that include at LEAST Android 4.3. Whenever I see those devices on sale, I repost them. I saw some great deals - like $20 Android 4.0 tablets. But the quality just isn't there some weeks. However, I should have at least featured them in list format.

In the future I'll include broader lists of tablets, including ones that I don't particularly like.

I also agree that Apple products need lower price points. I'm going to work on reorienting the column with this in mind. Thanks for the feedback!

Chromebook link leads to a seller with a $179 refurbished system - but with 16 GB, not the 32 GB you mention...

Thank you Alan for the correction! I apologize for the mistake. It will be corrected shortly. What burns me about this particular edit is that the price went as low as $140 for a (I think) 32GB model, but it sold out almost immediately. $179 is great, but it could have been a better deal.
