While modern video game consoles obviously play games, they also double as entertainment devices. You can watch movies on physical discs, stream using Netflix or other services, or just check out YouTube on your console.

But can your Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PlayStation 4 play Blu-ray discs? We're here to answer that for you.

Can the Xbox One Play Blu-ray?

Yes, your Xbox One will play Blu-ray discs. It doesn't matter which Xbox One model you have, since all three can read Blu-ray discs.

Note that the Xbox One S and Xbox One X can also read the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format. This is a successor to standard Blu-ray and does not work on existing Blu-ray players. Ultra HD Blu-ray is capable of playing 4K video, while regular Blu-ray is not.

Can the Xbox 360 Play Blu-ray?

No, the Xbox 360 does not play Blu-ray discs. The Xbox 360 uses DVDs for its games, and is completely incompatible with Blu-ray.

However, you can still stream from Netflix and other apps in 1080p HD.

Can the PlayStation 4 Play Blu-ray?

Yes, the PS4 plays Blu-ray discs. Unlike the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, however, no model of the PS4 supports Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Can the PlayStation 3 Play Blu-ray?

Yes, the PS3 plays Blu-ray discs. In fact, the PS3 was the first console to use Blu-ray discs.

At the time was one of the best values for those looking to pick up a Blu-ray player. Of course, due to the PS3's age, it does not support the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format.

Get Watching!

Now you know if your console plays Blu-ray discs. The Xbox 360 is the odd one out, but the newer Xbox One models play Ultra HD Blu-rays while no PS4 does, so Microsoft got the last laugh.
