Podcasts are simply awesome. Unlike books and videos, which require constant visual attention, podcasts are audio-only -- which means you can listen to them while doing something else: chores, driving, exercise, work, etc.

But there are a lot of less-than-stellar podcasts out there and it can be difficult to find the good ones, especially if you don't have the time or energy to sift through them all yourself. That's why we've done some of the work for you.

Here are 25 of the best podcasts that you might find interesting, especially if you're a man. That's not to say no one else can listen to these podcasts, they're just primarily aimed at the male of the species.

Personal Growth

podcast-radical-personal-finance

1. Radical Personal Finance

Of all the useful money-saving podcasts we have covered, Radical Personal Finance tops the list -- we would even go as so far as to say that if you could only pick one personal finance podcast to listen to, it should be this one.

Why? Because it's informative, well-researched, and backed by a qualified financial planner who has decades of experience. But most importantly, it's perfect for those who are clueless when it comes to money management.

podcast-art-of-charm

2. The Art of Charm

As far as self-growth and personal development are concerned, no podcast is better than The Art of Charm. If you know you aren't anywhere near your full potential, then you MUST start listening to this one. You won't regret it.

It features guests like Seth Godin and Tim Ferriss, and covers topics ranging from public speaking to negotiation, dating advice to career advice, confidence, productivity, networking, and more. It's where ordinary people become extraordinary.

podcast-modern-manners-guy

3. Modern Manners Guy

This podcast is all about quick advice for leading a more polite life. The episodes are short (10 minutes or less) and some of the topics may seem a bit silly, but on the whole it's a great resource for better understanding social cues and situations.

How much should you tip? What's the best way to start a new conversation? How do you deal with someone who talks over you? It's a veritable goldmine of advice.

podcast-one-extraordinary-marriage

4. One Extraordinary Marriage

This podcast is hosted by a husband-and-wife duo who have chosen to open up their own lives in order to help others build a stronger and more intimate marriage. It's not ONLY for men, but men will find it useful regardless.

Some of the topics are mundane (e.g. How to renew a marriage license?), some are deeply personal (e.g. Is it okay to not have kids?), and some are thought-provoking (e.g. Are you being fully present?). Husbands, tune in!

podcast-upwire-hacking-human-nature

5. Upwire: Hacking Human Nature

Upwire is all about the application of neuroscience as a way to "hack" our thoughts and behaviors. It's easy to follow even if you have no scientific background and the tips are both practical and effective.

Each episode is less than 10 minutes long but packed full of information. It's so useful that we included it in our list of the best neuroscience podcasts for training your brain.

Informative

podcast-99-invisible

6. 99% Invisible

99% Invisible is incredible. It presents a look into all of the things we don't normally think about, such as the origin of fortune cookies, the aspects of flag design, or why Freud used a couch instead of a chair.

It's so informative and interesting that we ranked it in the #1 spot in our compilation of our favorite podcasts of 2015. It's that good.

podcast-hardcore-history

7. Hardcore History

Hardcore History is history like you've never experienced it before. Dan Carlin explores all kinds of topics throughout world history, such as what happened in Munster after Martin Luther sparked the Protestant Reformation or how the Persians became one of the greatest empires of all time.

Each episode is about 4-5 hours long and you'll have to wait a few months before a new one drops, which goes to show just how well-researched and information-rich this podcast is. There's a reason why every episode has millions of downloads.

podcast-planet-money

8. Planet Money

Planet Money is an economics podcast, but don't let that scare you away. Produced by NPR, this show is very good at taking complex topics and breaking them down for laymen like you and me.

You'll be surprised at how much you learn through this podcast -- so much so that some undergraduate courses have even incorporated Planet Money into their curriculums. Yet, it's fun and light, and never too serious.

Each episode is 15 minutes long, which is short enough to be interesting but long enough to be insightful.

podcast-freakonomics

9. Freakonomics

Freakonomics aims to explore the "riddles of everyday life" and the "weird wrinkles of human nature". Or in other words, it delves down below the surface level of many things we take for granted and then exposes their inner workings.

Recently covered topics include the fairness of payday loans, the economics of sleep, whether boycotts actually work, the limitations of willpower, and most recently, why everyone seems to hate flying. Really interesting stuff!

podcast-reply-all

10. Reply All

Reply All is a show all about the internet. That's a bit vague, we know, but this podcast really takes advantage of that, covering all sorts of topics such as how the internet affects people, how people affect the internet, and why the internet is the way it is.

This one's a bit hit or miss in that some people really like it and others really hate it, but you should definitely give it a try. There's no way to know which group you belong to without listening to it yourself.

Creativity

podcast-writing-excuses

11. Writing Excuses

Writing Excuses is the best podcast for novelists and fiction writers. Bar none. There are others out there, but this podcast has the perfect balance. Each episode is only 15 minutes long, it's fun and lighthearted, it's informative and insightful, and very inspiring.

There are four hosts and each one has achieved success in the writing world, so you know they have the experience and credibility to share what they're sharing. Do you want to be a better storyteller? Then you need to listen to this podcast.

podcast-on-taking-pictures

12. On Taking Pictures

Photography has three aspects: the art, the science, and the philosophy behind it all. On Taking Pictures is a wonderful podcast that explores all three and how they play a role in the photography process. Gear talk is included.

Some of the topics can be complex but this is by no means a "pros only" podcast. You'll get a lot out of it no matter who you are, whether newbie, enthusiast, semi-pro, or more advanced.

Never picked up a camera before? Check out our piece on why everyone should learn a bit of photography.

podcast-americas-test-kitchen

13. America's Test Kitchen

America's Test Kitchen is the best resource for learning how to cook, especially if you're a newbie who's intimidated by the idea of stepping into a kitchen. Not only do they produce a solid TV show and great cookbooks, but they also have a podcast.

This isn't a "how to" podcast as teaching cooking by audio only would be tough. Instead, each episode has a guest that talks about food and provides tips and challenges for improving your skills.

podcast-bithell-games

14. Bithell Podcast

High-quality game development podcasts are few and far between, and the better ones tend to have slow release schedules (one episode per month or less). That's why I like Bithell Podcast, a weekly show with hour-long episodes.

Mike Bithell is the guy who created Thomas Was Alone. Each week, he meets with Alex Sliwinski and a guest to discuss different aspects of indie game development, like game design, art, and legal issues. A great listen if you want to create your own game.

podcast-basic-brewing-radio

15. Basic Brewing Radio

Craft beer has exploded in the United States over the past decade, leading to the growing popularity of home-brewing as a hobby. But home-brewing is more than just a hobby. It's art, it's science, and it's creativity. You can make your own beer style. How cool is that?

This podcast provides tips, advice, and anecdotes for anyone who wants to try their hand at this. And despite the name, it isn't ONLY for newbies; everyone is welcome.

Hobbies

podcast-all-the-books

16. All the Books!

Have you heard of the Book Riot podcast? Well, this one's a spin-off. Instead of exploring the world of publishing, this podcast is all about new releases and book recommendations (no specific genre). It's one of the best podcasts for book lovers. Period.

podcast-gamers-with-jobs

17. Gamers With Jobs

Of the many gaming-related podcasts out there, few of them are aimed at adults who have lives to live and can't spend all of their time gaming. This is the exception. Gamers With Jobs is the self-described "gaming podcast for mature gamers". If you're out of school and working, this one's for you.

podcast-underground-wellness

18. Underground Wellness Radio

Even though this podcast is primarly focused on health and wellness, it also touches on personal development and entrepreneurship from time to time. Each week is an interview with a special guest. If you need motivation for your own wellness, this one will deliver in spades.

podcast-inc-uncensored

19. Inc. Uncensored

Every week, Inc. Uncensored looks at the world of startups, entrepreneurship, and other tech-related business news. It covers topics like best practices, industry trends, and special companies that are doing things out of the ordinary.

There are lots of tech-related podcasts to enjoy, but this one is unique and definitely worth a listen, especially if you want to own your own startup at some point.

podcast-thinking-poker

20. Thinking Poker

If you love talking about poker, then Thinking Poker should be right up your alley. Here you'll not only learn a lot about poker strategy (especially as it relates to tournament play) but you'll also get a glimpse into the lives of poker players with each week's special guest.

Entertainment

podcast-monday-morning

21. Monday Morning Podcast

If you're a fan of the comedian Bill Burr and you haven't checked out his podcast yet, then shame on you. There's no structure to it: every Monday, he rants and rambles about anything and everything for about an hour.

But he does it in his trademark, blunt, humorous way. If you like his standup comedy, then you'll love this. It's an excellent way to start every week. (He also does a half-length podcast on Thursdays.)

podcast-joe-rogan-experience

22. Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan is a controversial figure, namely because he has strong opinions and isn't afraid to share them, but whether you like him or not, you should listen to his podcast at least once. You might be surprised.

The Joe Rogan Experience uses the typical interview format, but there's no formality to it. You're basically a fly on the wall, listening to two people discuss things that can be surprisingly insightful, heartfelt, and, at times, hilarious.

podcast-bill-simmons

23. Bill Simmons Podcast

You might know of Bill Simmons from his time at ESPN and Grantland. His podcast was shut down in 2015 but relaunched in 2016 under a new site called The Ringer.

The podcast is no longer a sports podcast, although sports figures do make guest appearances from time to time. Instead, Simmons now interviews all kinds of guests, including comedians (Louis C.K.), restaurateurs (David Chang), and investors (Chris Sacca).

podcast-the-mma-hour

24. The MMA Hour

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a touchy subject. I don't want to imply that MMA is only for men, nor do I want to imply that you're any less of a man if you don't like MMA, but there's no denying that MMA is dominated by men.

Regardless of gender, if you're into MMA, then you have to listen to this podcast. There are other great MMA podcasts out there, but The MMA Hour consistently sits at the top for having the best host, the best guests, and the best quality.

podcast-the-moth

25. The Moth

The Moth isn't for everyone, but plenty love it. Each episode features a different storyteller who tells a true story of their experiences. That description seems bland, but trust me, many of these stories are absolutely captivating. Stories are told live in front of an audience.
