When most people think of coupons, it's a vision of flipping through the newspaper and spending time clipping each money-saving offer. But thankfully, finding grocery coupons is much easier with a smartphone.

We're highlighting seven great iOS and Android apps that make it easy to find digital grocery coupons to help save cash.

1. Coupons.com

One of the top sites online for coupons and promotional codes, Coupons.com also brings that savings to its app. You'll find more than $500 of savings to take advantage of.

There are two different ways to save. First, if you have a loyalty card from a participating store, you can link that to the app and then select different coupons. When checking out, just scan the card and the coupons will automatically be applied to the total.

In addition to this, after shopping at a store without a loyalty card, just send a picture of your receipt after the purchase. The savings will be sent to your PayPal account.

If you still like to haul real coupons to the store, there's even a section of offers you can print at home.

2. SnipSnap

SnipSnap can help bridge the gap between physical and digital couponing. If you have a printed coupon, just open up the app and snap a photo. It will automatically convert the text, image, and bar code into a digital format to show at checkout.

Every coupon submitted to the app is searchable by all users. So your work can also save other people some cash. On the Discover screen, you can see what coupons others, including family and friends, have added into the app.

When arriving at a specific store, a notification will let you know if there are any coupons in the app. You'll also be notified close to a coupon's expiration date.

There are also a wide variety of grocery coupons you can add to a store loyalty card. It's easy to browse the coupons by category or store. A deals section can also save you money on a wide variety of products.

Loyalty and rewards cards are a great way to save money and are often tied to store-specific digital coupons. But just like with printed coupons, it can be a huge hassle trying to keep up with all the different cards to use at a specific store. Stocard provides a great way to free up space in your wallet or keychain.

With just a few clicks, you can take pictures of existing cards to store them in the app. Along with a huge number of different store cards to select from and add, you can even digitize any type of card with a barcode. At checkout, just open the app and select the card to scan. As a nice touch, the Apple Watch app allows you to access cards to scan without needing an iPhone.

For select stores, you can also browse coupons and other available discounts.

Instead of the traditional way to save money with coupons, SavingStar takes a different approach. Using the app, you'll select the different offers available and activate them.

The next step is to link a grocery store loyalty card to the app. When you make the purchase with the card, the savings process will begin. You can use as many offers as you'd like, either at once or across numerous shopping trips to different stores. If a store doesn't have a loyalty card, you can also take a picture of the receipt to redeem a reward for the purchase.

There are a number of ways to cash out once the savings are posted, including directly to a bank account, a PayPal account, or with a gift card.
