The Clock on the iPhone is probably your most frequently used app if the alarms keep you on schedule every day. But there's another little trick within the native Clock app that you may have overlooked: the Bedtime feature. It's one of the iPhone settings that can help you sleep better. The feature lets you track your sleep patterns with a visual sleep log.

How to Use the Bedtime Feature in iOS

A disciplined sleep schedule is one of the needs for good health. The Bedtime feature can help you wind down and go to bed on time with a helpful alarm. It can also work like a habit log by keeping track of the days you went to sleep on time and the days you didn't.

Here's how you can manage your bedtime settings:

  1. Open the Clock app.
  2. Tap on the Bedtime tab.
  3. Tap the Options button (upper left corner of the screen) and set the settings for Bedtime. Choose the days of the week, your bedtime reminder interval, the wakeup sound and its volume with the slider.
  4. Tap Done. Now, drag the moon icon to set the time you go to bed and the bell icon to set your wake up time.
  5. Use the toggle switch on the top right to use Bedtime or to switch if off.

This screen also includes a visual graph of your sleep history. Maintain the health of the graph by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. But, you can check a more detailed "sleep diary" by visiting the Health app on your iPhone.

Open the Health app > Tap the Health Data tab > Tap Sleep > Sleep Analysis. Your Sleep Analysis shows the amount of time that you spend in bed or asleep.

Do note that Bedtime in the Clock app tracks time that you spent in bed, but not how much you slept or moved. For that, you will need a gadget with the sleep tracking feature. And, to make good sleep a lifelong habit, you will need these scientific tips to sleep peacefully and a few choice apps and methods to fall asleep faster.
