Opera 15 Is A Faster, Simpler Chrome, And Here Are 3 Great Reasons To Try It

It may seem ridiculous now, but when I was younger, I forked over a great wad of cash for Opera, a revolutionary web browser from Norway. I took it home, excited at finally being able to ditch the slow, clunky web browser that was bundled with my ISP. I remember thinking how amazing it was and how it would dominate the web browsing world. Years have passed. Firefox and Google Chrome have burst onto the scene and Opera’s luster has dulled somewhat. Opera is fighting back though, with a radical overhaul. But is it any good?

CoffeeScript Is JavaScript Without The Headaches

I’ve never really liked writing JavaScript all that much. From the day I wrote my first line using it, I’ve always resented that whatever I write in it always ends up looking like a Jackson Pollock painting. Blegh. Despite its power and flexibility, JavaScript is by no means a pretty language. It takes verbosity to an extreme and has so many quirks and idiosyncrasies, even the most famous book about the JavaScript programming language nods to its inherent nastiness with its title ‘JavaScript: The Good Parts’. Fortunately, there is a better alternative: CoffeeScript.

Learn How To Develop Apps On Your Windows Phone With TouchDevelop

A dearth of third-party applications has always been the ‘Achilles heel’ of the Windows Phone 8 platform. Since its inception, users of Microsoft’s bronze medal OS have found that they need to do without some of the cooler apps that are found on WP8’s cooler siblings, including Vine and Instagram. Redmond’s Microsoft Research has apparently taken note of this, and has responded by releasing TouchDevelop; a curious combination of IDE, programming language and app store. It allows you to write apps for your phone, on your phone.

Airmail for Mac OS X Is Making Email Beautiful Again

When I first heard of Airmail, I must admit I questioned if I really needed a new way to check my email. Like many people, Mail.app satisfied all of my email requirements, and I struggled to conceptualise ways in which an email client could be significantly bettered. Airmail has conclusively proved me wrong. It has effectively dragged an old communication medium into the 21st century by combining beautiful and elegant UI design along with features that have traditionally not been found in email clients.

iA Writer for Mac & iOS: The Best Word Processor You’ve Never Used

Be it a school paper or a blog post, all of us at some point find ourselves in the position of having to dump a bunch of characters into a text file. While cell phone operating systems are tripping over themselves to embrace flat, minimalistic design, Microsoft Word looks like the control panel for a space shuttle. Thankfully, iA Writer for Mac and iOS bucks that trend, and is perhaps the most joyously simplistic text editor that you can find on the market today.

Banned: What Happens When Facebook Doesn’t Like You [Feature]

When I interviewed Mark S. Zuckerberg, I thought that he was a charming, polite guy. When he talked, he did so with a typically Midwestern drawl. He has raised a large family and has a massively successful bankruptcy law practice in Indianapolis, and is widely regarded as an expert in his field. Searching YouTube with the query ‘Mark Zuckerberg Indiana’ brings up countless media interviews and appearances. He also has no connection to the Facebook founder, other than his name and his Jewish heritage. And yet, this got him banned from Facebook.
