AppsFire: The Best App Finding Deals & Paid Apps Free [iOS]
Are you looking for a way to get some great applications on iOS without spending a dime? There are plenty of good applications on the App Store that are already free, but it’s even better when you actually manage to find an application that would normally cost money for free during a promotional period.
The problem is, of course, that there are a lot of applications on the App Store going free at arbitrary times, and it’s nearly impossible to keep track of them on your own. On top of that, many applications are badly made, and not even worth the time to download them.
So how do you find the very best paid applications for free? Simple, head to the App Store and download AppsFire. It allows you to find applications that have gone free for a limited time with minimal effort on your part. As an added bonus, the application ever scores the apps, so not only will be you be able to find slick deals, but you will know whether the application is actually worth taking the time to download to your device at all.
Using The App
When you first launch the application, it will ask if you would like to enable push notifications. Enabling them is completely optional, but there are some useful features that require push notifications to work. We will get to those features later.
Next, the application will take you through a very brief tutorial and questionnaire that will help it decide what kind of apps you want to see. You can always adjust this later, but it will give you a good starting point. It will only take a few seconds, and then you will be ready to start finding awesome apps for free.
After you run through the initial set up, it will take you to the list of apps tailor-made for you based on the survey. You will see all different categories off applications that are on sale and free. You will also see app lists on the bottom of the page that suit what AppsFire feels is your general taste in applications.
While browsing the apps, you can click on any application and see more information. You can see the text description from iTunes, screenshots, a price history, and a sample of the people who have saved money on that particular application.
Of course, you may not be happy with the list it makes for you, and this is an easy fix. Simply scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Add More Apps.” From here, you will be able to add all kinds of apps to the list. The list of categories is incredibly large, so you can find sale and limited time free apps of almost any type. If there is an app you want on your phone, chances are great that AppsFire will have you covered.
As you would expect, the app comes with a search function which will help you find a specific application. You can type in any application you like, and you can also see trending search terms from other users within the application. You can also choose to filter your searches based on the price and whether of not it’s available on only iPhone or iPad.
Remember that feature that requires notifications I talked about earlier? This feature is called price alerts, and this is one of the single greatest features in the application. These allow you to search for any application and mark it for alerts. If, for example, you wanted to get Angry Birds free, you can click the bell on its results page, and the app will send you a notification if the price drops.
As you would expect, there is a settings section that allows you to tweak the app. If, for example, you’d like to enable deal sharing so you can let your friends see the cool stuff you’ve found, you would come to the settings to tweak that. You can also change the country for the store in the app, connect to Facebook, enable deals in email, and more.
