AOL Releases Play For iOS Devices [News]
<firstimage=”//static.makeuseof.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/playbyaol.jpg”>If you‘re on the lookout for more streaming music over the Internet, AOL provides yet another option. It has just released its PLAY app for iOS devices. Originally available for Android only, PLAY by AOL is an application for both listening to free songs and albums and sharing them over your Facebook, Twitter, or PLAY account with your friends and followers.
The application accesses over 47,000 SHOUTcast radio stations, plus it allows you to play existing music in your iTunes music app, as well as songs from MP3 selections of the day, and much more.
The app has a well designed UI, and the SHOUTcast Radio selections include a wide variety of music categories, from Blues, Rock, to movie soundtracks. Radio stations can be starred and saved as part of your “Favorites.” You can also tap over to see a scrolling collection of album covers from which to play full-length CDs, as well as exclusive tracks from SXSW.
Music plays in the background when the app is closed. You can also add your own album art to your shares, as well as listen to previews and leave comments on music posted by your friends. As you might expect, the app will notify you when others start following you or leave you comments.
The app requires iOS 4 or later, and is available for free download.
