There are plenty of reasons why Angry Birds is so damn addictive. And just when you think you’ve kicked that habit, developer Rovio goes ahead and releases a major update, which brings 30 new levels, a new power for the Bomb Bird and potions for pigs.

The 30 new levels of the Angry Birds 3.4.0 update are all set in a piggy laboratory with wacky scientists and crazy potions, Rovio says. This brings the total number of levels in Angry Birds to 495—pretty awesome for a game that’s free on Android and costs just a dollar on the App Store. The three new piggy potions are designed to let you “make those green snout-nosed creatures look even stranger than normal!”

But the big update is to the Bomb Bird, whose new power is available across all the 30 new levels. The Bomb Bird can now emit a shock wave, a powerful circle of electricity followed by an almighty blast. Use it wisely and you should be able to get through any puzzle.

Even with this awesome new power, if you are having trouble beating the game, we have some Angry Birds tips and hints to help with your frustration.

Rovio has also tied up with Orbotix to create a custom Bomb Bird Sphero to add a bit of augmented reality fun to your Angry Birds. We reviewed the Sphero and were impressed by the app-controlled robotic toy.

It’s pretty cool that the original Angry Birds is still getting updates, even though Rovio has been launching sequels like the recent Angry Birds Star Wars II.

The new 3.4.0 update is available for the original Angry Birds on Android and iOS. Rovio hasn’t mentioned if or when it will be coming to other platforms.
