Erez Zukerman 07-03-2014

Each week we scour current Google Play promotions and cherry-pick the best of the best. This week we have a unique weather app, a creepily alien platformer, and a couple of Square Enix games.

Because app sales are temporary affairs, by the time you read this, these may no longer be on sale. Worry not: Simply check back next week for some more Android deals!

Waking Mars ($4.99, now $0.99) [No Longer Available]

You’re trapped under the surface of Mars, in caves teeming with alien life. So what else is new? Featuring creepily organic graphics that’ll make your device feel like it’s teeming with alien life, this indie platformer is all about discovery and survival in a hostile environment.

Deus Ex: The Fall ($6.99, now $0.99)

This game was on sale iOS Apps on Sale for 1 November: Deus Ex, XCOM & Rayman Halloween generally means scary films, lots of sugar and dressing up but for app developers it's a great time to hold a sale instead. Any excuse a good excuse, right? Read More for iOS back in November, and now it’s Android’s turn. It’s part RPG, part FPS, and it’s made by Square Enix. A buck is an excellent price for this game, if only for the production value.

Rayman Jungle Run ($2.99, now $0.99)

If you missed Rayman’s Jungle Run on our October 31st column, here’s another chance to get it. It’s the same charming, fast-paced, high-spirited platformer it always was, with copious amounts of jumping and running around, not to mention the chirpy soundtrack.

GA 1: An Assassin in Orlandes ($5.99, now $0.99)

Choose your own adventure! Yup, we like to feature those every now and then, as it’s one literary genre that has made the transition to mobile quite well. You get to toss dice, and there are realistic page-turn effects, too — though of course most of the graphics in this genre are going to be in your head, rather than on the screen.

Final Fantasy V ($15.99, now $7.99)

Another Square Enix game, this one dropping from a whopping $16 to a still-expensive $8. If you’re into the Final Fantasy franchise, this is a fun way to feed your addiction. And if you’re not quite sure what Final Fantasy is all about, we have some websites to explain 5 Best Websites Dedicated To The Final Fantasy Series The Final Fantasy series of video games is 25 years old this year, with the first title, unsurprisingly called Final Fantasy, released in 1987. InstaWeather Pro ($1.99, now $0.99)

This is a weather app with a twist: Snap a photo of your surroundings (while outside, presumably), and the app overlays a weather report and a forecast on top of your image, which you can then share. Handy Note Pro ($4.03, now $0.99)

Seriously though, this is a lovely-looking notes app, if not exactly minimalist. If you love flair and stickers and feel restricted by something like Google Keep, you should check Handy Note Pro out.

Tune in next week for some more great Android deals! And of course, feel free to share your finds and favorites in the comments below.
