Amazon has officially started the countdown to Prime Day 2019. The online retailer has revealed the first details about Prime Day 2019. Including when it's happening, how long it's going to last, the countries involved, and the kind of deals you can expect.

What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day began in 2015. Amazon hosted the first Prime Day in order to celebrate its 20th birthday. And Prime Day was so popular it became an annual event. As the name suggests, Prime Day is only open to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Amazon Prime Day is an annual tradition which sees Amazon discounting products across the board. But only for Prime subscribers. This rewards existing subscribers, entices new subscribers in, and lets Amazon shift old stock in the middle of the year.

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2019?

Amazon Prime Day 2019 will take place on July 15 and 16. Prime Day will begin at 12am PT on Monday, July 15, and end at 11:59pm PT on July 16. That's a full 48 hours, making this the longest Prime Day ever. Prime Day 2018 took place over 36 hours.

Prime Day 2019 will be open to Prime subscribers in the US, UK, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and (for the first time ever) United Arab Emirates.

In the press release announcing Prime Day 2019, Amazon's Jeff Wilke said:

"Get ready, as we pull back the curtain to reveal exclusive products, special performances and two full days of phenomenal deals this Prime Day."

"Our vision is that Prime Day should be the absolute best time to be a member---when you can enjoy shopping, savings, entertainment and some of the best deals Prime members have ever seen."

"Stay tuned as we reveal exclusive savings at Whole Foods Market, thousands of new product launches, as well as world-class entertainment and more, leading up to Prime Day on July 15 and 16."

In terms of specific deals, Amazon is promising "the biggest Prime Day deals ever on Alexa-enabled devices." The company is also promising "more than one million deals globally". This includes Lightning Deals with "jaw-dropping prices on top-tier brands".
